Jonathan Haslam embarked on his cheesy adventure early in 2016. Along with his partner, Nicola, they moved to beautiful Sandbach in 2011 and now have a 3 year old (going on 13) daughter called Emily. Jonathan says, “We’ve always enjoyed the buzz of a market and most weekends would be spent pottering around the array of markets and events in Cheshire. I’ve always been passionate about food and always enjoyed preparing, cooking and hosting meals for friends and family”.
Jonathan currently works full time in banking, but his passion definitely lies in food and events.
The idea for ‘Press and Melt’ stemmed from his love for street food and outdoor cooking in general, but also an excitement for preparing food for a larger audience, getting a real buzz when people enjoyed his food commenting on his attention to detail and flavour combinations. The idea was to provide high quality, hot food outdoors offering something reasonably original. After some research both in Cheshire and via his sister Kim in London, the idea of the gourmet toastie came about. It ticked all the boxes, it can be held with no need for cutlery, excellent quality local produce can be used, their cheese comes from Godfrey C Williams and Son in Sandbach, it’s easy to walk around whilst chomping away, it’s reasonably quick and simple to prepare, there are many combinations to play about with, it covers the veggie option (they also ofter gluten free), and most importantly Jonathan didn’t know anybody who doesn’t love a comforting Grilled Cheese Toastie!
