Rachel Nettles creative background started in the mid eighties when she worked in thread and cloth making full size bicycles and lawn mowers to stitched ladies in tights. This background is the basics of her present work.
Rachel has her own studio in Altrincham where she is passionate about Free Motion Machine Embroidery. She enjoys studying detail forms (presently vegetables) then creating 3 dimensional sculptures. Each sculpture is individual and made from sewn layer upon sewn layer of stitch using different machine tensions. Each stitch is made from three different colours. Once the sewing process is finished Rachel then sculpts to form her vegetable. Rachel says “For me it’s important to push the boundaries of stitch”.
Cabbages and Nettles’ work has recently been exhibited at The Anthropologie Gallery on Kings Road, London as well as Rachel being a featured artist in the magazine Garden Illustrated.
