Atlas Apothecary

Having trained as a solicitor, Seona Reilly worked as a litigator in Leeds before returning to her home county of Cheshire eighteen years ago. Around that time she began looking for a better way to sooth her new baby’s irritated skin, rather than relying on the petroleum based emollients available at the time. After a period of extensive research (nearing obsession!) she discovered the amazing therapeutic properties of plant oils. Experimenting in her kitchen, she began to create natural soaps and moisturising lotion bars that really did settle her son’s eczema, and also soothed grateful friends’ previously troublesome skin.
A few years later, shortly after moving to France, Seona was invited to take a stall at the town’s Christmas market. Flattered to be asked she rather too hastily said she’d be delighted to join in, without giving much thought to where she was going to source sufficient raw ingredients in time! After a mad dash back to the UK to collect supplies she set about making large batches of handcrafted natural soap scented with simple essential oils, leaving them to cure for several weeks before the market started. The market was a much greater success than she’d envisaged and quickly realised there was a growing demand for natural, hand-crafted skincare. Consequently, she became an active participant in the emerging artisan market scene around Paris.
Having previously studied aromatherapy and developed a deep love and appreciation of the restorative properties of essential oils, on returning to Cheshire a few years later Seona trained in the art of natural perfumery. The therapeutic effect of natural compounds and oils on a person’s wellbeing can be truly remarkable and she believes are under-utilised in skincare. Atlas Apothecary was born of a desire to create luxurious, active-plant skincare with the added benefits of complex, natural aromatic blends. Working from her rural garden workshop in Antrobus, Atlas Apothecary sources exotic botanical ingredients from around the globe. These are paired with her proprietary fragrance blends inspired by the natural world – from the deeply evocative and warming spices of a Moroccan Souk, to the gentle aromatic blend of herbs and flowers along a dew-soaked Lakeland path.
